Salt
Common salt, sodium chloride, NaCl, is the most usual of all minerals to be modified in diets, both grain-based and purified.
Standard grain-based LabDiet®: feeds can have the NaCl, or the sodium alone, augmented as a "direct add." If a NaCl-deficient or sodium-defiient grain-based diet is required, a custom TestDiet® modification of any LabDiet® feed can be formulated.
Purified diets can be formulated with no added NaCl and with varying levels of NaCl. For sodium-related research, TestDiet® can manufacture purified diets with varying levels of sodium.
For example, using TestDiet® #5755 as the control diet, the sodium level can be increased and/or decreased to offer a carefully controlled range of sodium levels for study. Listed below is a typical series of diets used in sodium research. Of course, the composition and sodium levels can be modified to your specifications.
