Cholesterol
Purified diets can be formulated with no added cholesterol and with varying levels of cholesterol. Some examples are shown at Cholesterol Modifications to Purified Diets.
Standard grain-based LabDiet® can have the Cholesterol augmented as a “direct add;” if a Cholesterol-deficient grain-based diet is required, a custom TestDiet® modification of any LabDiet® feed can be formulated. Some examples are shown at Cholesterol Modifications to LabDiet® formulas.
Cholesterol – Cholic Acid – Atherosclerosis Note: Many diets with added cholesterol also incorporate cholic acid (sodium cholate) to very effectively facilitate cholesterol absorption/utilization. However, cholic acid appears to be contraindicated for atherosclerosis studies and is not used by most researchers for such studies. Diet formulas can be modified to eliminate cholic acid.
