TABLETS — LabTreat™ Enrichment Tablets (“Precision Pellets”)
LabTreat™ Enrichment Tablets (or “Precision Pellets”) each have specific weight and dimensions that do not vary from pellet to pellet. They are a “precise dosage” food critical to studies in which accurate measurement of food consumption and/or behavioral response is essential.
LabTreat™ Enrichment Tablets from Purina TestDiet® are available in a broad range of standard formulas—both grain-based and purified ingredient diets. Grain-based diets are based on Purina LabDiet® formulas and are comparable to the composition of the animals' usual maintenance food. Purified diet pellets offer all the benefits of regular purified ingredient diets—precise consistent ingredients and nutrition values. Both grain-based and purified diets are available as primary sources of nutrition or as reward and reinforcement treats with increased sugar and/or flavoring.

Standard Formulas — Purina TestDiet® Tablets are available in several standard formulas – both grain-based and purified ingredient diets – to suit your particular requirements. Tablets are available for any species, standard formulas are available for several, including Rats, Mice, Hamsters, Non-Human Primates, Pigeons, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Cockatiels, and Softbills
Custom Formulas — If a standard tablet weight, dimension, or formula does not suffice, they can be customized for your research protocol. We can also add medications and your test compounds. See details below.
Flavors & Colors — Many flavors are available to add to any Purina TestDiet® Tablets, such as Banana, ‘Citrus’, Raspberry, Orange, Grape, Chocolate, Tropical Punch, Peanut Butter, and Bacon, among others. Tablets, particularly those with a purified diet base, can be color-coded if needed by your research. Flavored tablets typically are color-coded, unless specially ordered otherwise.

If a standard tablet weight, dimension, or formula does not meet your requirements, they can be customized to suit your research protocol. Tablets can be flavored and colored.
To add a non-standard flavor – no charge, but it may take longer than usual to produce. For custom formulas – there is no “set up fee”, but the minimum order is $250.00. We can also add medications and your test compounds. There is no extra charge to add a customer-supplied test compound/medication.

Packaging — Tablets are sold in the package units shown on the product information sheet, with the approximate tablet count and weight shown on the label. Tablets are packaged in wide mouth plastic jars. Jars are moisture-sealed with twist off caps. Cushioning material is added in each jar, both below and above the product. They may be purchased by the individual jar or by cartons of twelve jars (20 mg and smaller) or six jars (45 mg and larger). 5-gram Tablets are also available in bulk in 10-kg cartons. (*See special packaging for irradiated tablets, below.)
Gamma Irradiation sterilization is available on request and can add up to ten extra business days to the production time. *Tablets are vacuum-sealed in plastic bags and an irradiated container is included with each formula for storage of tablets after opening each bag.
Production Time — Most standard products will be available from stock; otherwise, they will usually be produced within 10 business days of your order. Custom orders might require slightly longer lead time; please discuss this with us when placing a custom order. Whether for a standard or a custom product, please let us know if your requirement is urgent and we will do our best to accommodate you.
*Note: “45 mg” and “20 mg” and smaller sizes are nominal sizes: they are engineered to be the precise dimensions necessary for efficient functioning of pellet dispensing instruments. Part of our quality control process is to test pellets in Coulbourn® Pellet Dispensers. Since some formulas are more or less dense than others, the actual weight may differ from formula to formula, but NOT from tablet to tablet.
