Fiber Modifications to Purified Diets

We can alter the fiber concentration of any purified diet; diets with high and low fiber concentrations are possible. These formulas can be "calorie-balanced" or "quantity-balanced." (For more information see About Diet Formulas.)

As an example, TestDiet® 5755 Basal Diet can be modified to offer a wide range of fiber contents. We can produce any level of fiber you specify. Purified diets with modified fiber content are generally available in either meal or pelleted forms. The following diets have been formulated using non-nutritive fiber (cellulose*). These diets listed have been formulated for laboratory rodents, but diets can be made for any species of laboratory animal.

*Traditionally most, of not all, of the fiber in a purified diet has been supplied by cellulose, an insoluble fiber. At TestDiet® we recognize the growing attention to the function of fiber in digestion and general lab animal health, and specifically in the metabolism of fats. Consequently, our new TestDiet® DIO (diet-induced obesity) series provides equal parts of the insoluble fiber traditionally used in purified diets (cellulose) and soluble fiber (inulin), to more closely resemble a natural ingredient diet. Inulin is a derivative of beets and provides no measurable energy (kcal). At your request, we can modify any formula to substitute inulin for some or all of the cellulose.
