TestDiet® will modify the salt composition of any of the standard LabDiet® products as desired. Modified products can be manufactured in three ways:
1. by omitting the addition of the mineral;
2. by reformulating the product to eliminate those ingredients which contribute to the salt content of the diet; or,
3. by adding additional amounts of salt as a "direct add" to the "off-the shelf" LabDiet® product. (See Modified LabDiet® Grain-Based Diets.)
For example, Laboratory Rodent LabDiet® 5001 can be modified to incorporate no added salt (NaCl), with the resulting diet containing 0.2% sodium; or 8% added salt, with the resulting diet containing 3.15% sodium. Levels anywhere in-between can be achieved. For rodent diets offering less than 0.2% sodium, we recommend using a purified diet.
Similar modifications can be done with the salt in any LabDiet® product. We can modify the salt composition of a diet for any species of laboratory animal.
Following are just a few examples.
